PET (polyethylene terephthalate) – the basic ingredients of this material are natural and synthetic polymers, developed as a result of petroleum processing. Decomposition time for a PET bottle can amount even to thousands of years, and during this time harmful compounds can be released to the natural environment that are harmful to the environment as well as for the health and life of people and animals. PET bottles are reusable – as a result of reprocessing one can obtain, among others, fibre and yarn, foils, furniture, parts of car interiors, polyester resins, and fuel oils. If we use waste segregation system in everyday life, we ensure that such material does not lay in the ground, polluting the environment, but that it is recycled and used for production of new containers. More than 25 million tons of PET containers are produced yearly all around the world.
